INFORMATION
Volunteers serve in a variety of MHMR programs and come from diverse backgrounds and interests. They share a common goal, however: giving of themselves to someone. The time a volunteer gives depends on a volunteer position and the availability of the volunteer. Some give of their time and talents daily, some weekly, and some monthly. Others volunteer for short-time projects. Opportunities
for volunteers include: Ø
Staffing a Suicide Prevention/Crisis Intervention hot line Ø
Assisting professional staff in medication clinics Ø
Assisting consumers with independent living skills in the
community and linking them to other agencies in the community for assistance Ø
Helping build community support by speaking to community groups on
behalf of MHMR Ø
Transcribing of progress notes Ø
Observation in psychiatric evaluations Ø
Observation in group therapy sessions Ø
Observation with Doctors, Nurses, and Caseworkers Ø
Assisting staff on call in emergency
calls If interested, contact Janie Velasquez, Director of Volunteer Services/Public Information Officer |
